Bruce W. Shand has been a life-long resident of Salt Lake County. He was born in Salt Lake City in 1948, went to Murray High School and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's Science Degree in Political Science. He attended John Marshall Law School in Chicago and has been a practicing attorney in Salt Lake County since 1976. He received his MBA from the University of Utah. Mr. Shand specializes in corporate, real estate and probate law and estate planning. Before becoming an officer, he represented Friends of Alta as their attorney in corporate and real estate transactions.
The Shand family has been involved with Alta skiing for a very long period of time. Mr. Shand's father, William H. Shand, skied with Alf Engen from High Rustler when wooden skis were in fashion. Bruce was a skier at Alta until he left for law school, then the practice of law cut short his skiing career. Bruce's son, Nathan, is a long-time skier and worked at Alta for one season.
