Mim Allison

With her father as instructor, Mim began skiing at the age of 5 in her back yard in Wisconsin, and it became a life long favorite sport. As an adult, she found Alta to be the ski community she kept coming back to. She acquired a love of hiking during camping trips to the mountains of the Wasatch and to Utah's national parks. She began visiting Utah at least annually beginning in 1974.

Mim and her husband, Dan, purchased a home in Alta in 1997. They now spend many weeks each year enjoying the skiing and hiking. Mim and Dan's three children and their spouses and grandchildren are frequent visitors.

After graduating with a degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1971, Mim began a career in investment management at Wisconsin's largest trust company. In 1990, she left that organization and founded her own company, Sunstone Financial Group, to provide accounting, administrative and compliance services; investor servicing; marketing and distribution support services; and strategic planning for mutual fund companies. In 2001, she sold her company to a Midwest regional bank and financial services company.

Currently Mim is active with various residential real estate projects, serves on the board of directors of the Northwestern Mutual Series Fund, and with her husband, raises cattle and olives in a manner consistent with sustainable agricultural practices on their ranch in Sonoma County California.

Her other outdoor interests include swimming, biking, triathlons, kayaking, and outdoor cooking. As a pilot, she flies her own airplane.

In addition to having a deep love and appreciation for the environment and community of Alta, Mim brings to the Friends of Alta her management, financial, marketing, and strategic planning skills, and experience serving on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations and public companies.
