Salt Lake County is currently updating the Wasatch Canyons General Plan. The purpose of this plan is to guide future development and preservation in the canyons. Currently, 19 preliminary goals have been identified and Salt Lake County is now looking for public feedback on these goals and how to best achieve them. UDOT has created a facebook group regarding the Little Cottonwood Canyon EIS (Environmental Impact Statement). This group was created to encourage participation and hear from stakeholders as well as to provide relevant and updated information to the public. We would like to introduce our 2018 Summer Bill Levitt Fellow, Siri Vlasic!

Siri graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Environmental Science in 2017. She has a wide range of experience, including conducting conservation research in the Okvango Delta of southern Africa to providing GIS assistance for a Salt Lake City landscape architecture and community planning firm. Siri grew up skiing at Alta, and thinks of it as her second home. She looks forward to combining her love for the area with her passion for environmental stewardship as the 2018 Summer Bill Levitt Fellow.

The Town of Alta, home to the Albion Basin and Alta Ski Area, is located in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah. This unique area has maintained its unspoiled character by avoiding overdevelopment and exploitation.  FOA is committed to the area’s preservation by acquiring and conserving land, protecting watersheds, and promoting environmental education.  We see it as extremely important to engage in local and regional land use planning, stewardship activities, and environmental education.

Spend your summer up at Alta! The summer fellowship mainly consists of environmental stewardship work, scientific data collection, and outreach with the public. The following tasks further describe the regular duties to be performed by a fellow as he/she serves under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director (ED) of Friends of Alta.
