Town of Alta Mayor Tom Pollard

People are generally surprised to learn that a municipality exists in Alta. The Town of Alta has been incorporated almost 38 years, since August 1970. The Town of Alta has its own zoning ordinances and general plan which regulate and guide development and natural resource protection in the Town. The Town's regulations and policies have remained steadfast in its protection of our natural resources and watershed.

Because of its commitment to natural resource and watershed protection, the Town has implemented many proactive programs, such as our recycling program, renewable energy projects, canyon cleanups, weed removal, and the educational summer booth program. The Town's commitment and duty to watershed protection has also brought challenges in the form of legal and other disputes against the Town's regulations and policies.

Throughout its more than 20 years of existence, Friends of Alta has helped the Town carry out some of our proactive environmental programs and projects in order to protect and steward our community's fragile environment and watershed. In addition, Friends of Alta has assisted the Town of Alta when legal disputes have attempted to challenge the Town's legal duty to continue to protect natural resources and the watershed.

Aside from the assistance that Friends of Alta has given to the Town, we recognize and applaud the other contributions Friends of Alta has made to the Alta community, particularly land conservation and stewardship in the Albion Basin.

The Town of Alta profoundly appreciates the extraordinary contributions made by Friends of Alta that help protect and preserve Alta's environment. We hope that Friends of Alta can continue its important and excellent work.
