Our Efforts

Friends of Alta is dedicated to making a positive contribution toward enriching education. In partnership with learning institutions, including universities, and primary and secondary schools, as well as local and Utah State government, we are developing ways in which Alta’s unique history and environment can be used in an educational setting. Friends of Alta is sponsoring a three year teacher in-service program designed to help Utah primary school teachers incorporate geographic information systems (GIS) in the classroom. We are also in the process of providing results of our Eco-Geographical Study online so that teachers and students may research scientific information for educational purposes. We have also been working with the University of Wisconsin to gather additional scientific information for the Albion Basin. The University will use this information in its geology classes. Friends of Alta also donates an annual contribution to the Alta School. Please contact Friends of Alta if you would like to participate in our education program.
